    Private South Coast Tour

Iceland’s South Coast is the country’s most concentrated stretch of waterfalls, black sand, and glacier views, and it’s also the route most other tour companies run as a shared bus. This is the private version, one comfortable private VIP vehicle booked only for your group, with a driver-guide who sets the pace instead of a fixed excursion schedule.

Most South Coast tours run on a bus schedule, stopping where the bus stops. This one runs on your schedule, with a driver-guide who knows which stops are worth the extra time.

You get waterfalls, a glacier, and a black sand beach with sea stacks, all on one route out from Reykjavík and back, with room to linger at Seljalandsfoss or Reynisfjara instead of being rushed back to the bus.

It’s the same route many day tours run, done privately for your own group, on your own timing.

    Eight stops, one private vehicle.

    Stop 01

    Urriðafoss

A wide, powerful waterfall on the Þjórsá river that most visitors never hear about.

    Stop 02

    Seljalandsfoss

A waterfall you can walk behind in summer, for a different view of the falls.

    Stop 03

    Gljúfrabúi

A smaller waterfall tucked into a narrow, moss-lined canyon nearby.

    Stop 04

    Skógafoss

One of Iceland’s widest and most powerful falls, with stairs up the side for a view from above.

    Stop 05

    Sólheimajökull

A glacier outlet you can view up close from the roadside.

    Stop 06

    Dyrhólaey

A coastal promontory with an arch rock formation and, in season, nesting puffins.

    Stop 07

    Reynisfjara

The black sand beach known for its basalt columns and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks offshore.

    Stop 08

    Vík

Iceland’s southernmost village, where the day wraps up.

    The whole day, in order.

Pickup details go out by email 6 to 24 hours before departure. This is the sequence, not a fixed clock.

    Hellisheiði and Hveragerdi
A drive-by look at the geothermal power plant and this small geothermal town on the way out of Reykjavík.
    Urriðafoss
A wide, powerful waterfall on the Þjórsá river, off the main road rather than at a marked pull-off.
    Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrabúi
Walk behind Seljalandsfoss in summer, then a short walk to its smaller neighbor tucked into a narrow canyon.
    Skógafoss
One of the widest and most powerful falls in Iceland, with stairs up the side for the view from above.
    Sólheimajökull
A glacier outlet visible from the roadside, a reminder of how much ice covers this island.
    Dyrhólaey
A coastal promontory with an arch rock formation, and puffins nesting on the cliffs between April and August.
    Reynisfjara
The black sand beach known for its basalt columns and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks just offshore.
    Vík
The day wraps up in Iceland’s southernmost village before the drive back to Reykjavík.

    Pricing

    What’s included

Transportation in a comfortable private VIP vehicle, an English-speaking driver-guide, and free Wi-Fi on board, along with pickup and drop-off at your Reykjavík accommodation, the nearest designated tour bus stop, or Reykjavík Cruise Port if you provide your port details when booking. Admission to any sites beyond what’s listed in the itinerary isn’t included.

Good to know before you book

This tour is weather-dependent, so stops or timing can shift if conditions require it, and walking behind Seljalandsfoss is a summer-only option. Bring layers, waterproof clothing, and sturdy shoes, since several stops involve walking on uneven or wet ground. You’ll get an email confirmation with pickup details 6 to 24 hours before departure, and while pickup covers most Reykjavík accommodation, you may need to walk a short distance to the nearest stop. This tour isn’t wheelchair accessible, and there is no minimum age requirement, though some stops involve uneven terrain.

    Other Routes

    Looking for a different route

If you’d rather see Iceland’s western peninsula instead, our private Snæfellsnes tour covers black sand beaches, lava fields, and Kirkjufell mountain on a different day trip entirely. For the Golden Circle route, we run four private versions depending on how you’d like the day to end, from a shorter cruise-passenger tour to editions finishing at Hvammsvík Lagoon or Sky Lagoon, all listed on our private tours page.

Yes, in summer. Walking behind the waterfall is a seasonal option depending on water flow and conditions, so it isn’t guaranteed year round.

Possibly, at Dyrhólaey, but only between April and August, which is when puffins nest on the cliffs there. Outside that window, the site is still worth the stop for the views and the arch rock formation.

Yes. There is no minimum age requirement for our South Coast tour, and children of all ages are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Some stops involve walking on uneven terrain, including stairs at Skógafoss and loose sand at Reynisfjara.
