Golden Circle Whale's Fjord Road Tour
Description
The Golden Circle, taken further.
A full private day through Kerið, Gullfoss and Geysir, then a quiet, little-driven stretch of coast along the Hvalfjörður fjord road home. No lagoon stop, no shared vehicle, no one else's itinerary but yours.
You get the same three headline stops as the standard route, plus Kerið Crater, a farm lunch, and ice cream on the way. Then, instead of retracing the loop, your driver-guide takes the Hvalfjörður road north of the city.
It's the private, no-lagoon version of our Golden Circle, built for travelers who already have a spa day elsewhere in their trip, or who'd simply rather end the day with a drive than a soak.
Seven stops, one private vehicle.
Kerið Crater
A volcanic caldera roughly 6,500 years old, red rock rings a small crater lake.
Gullfoss
Iceland's best known waterfall, a two-tiered drop into a deep canyon.
Geysir
The geothermal field that gave "geyser" its name. Strokkur erupts every 5–10 minutes.
Friðheimar
Lunch inside a working tomato greenhouse.
Dairy Farm
Fresh ice cream made from locally sourced milk.
Þingvellir
Where the North American and Eurasian plates meet.
Hvalfjörður
The fjord road home, rarely driven by other tours.
The whole day, in order.
Pickup details go out by email 6 to 24 hours before departure. This is the sequence, not a fixed clock.

This is the Golden Circle stretched into a full day, for travelers who want more than the three headline stops but aren't looking for a lagoon soak at the end of it. After the standard route, we drive the Hvalfjörður (Icelandic: Hvalfjörður) fjord road, known in English as Whale's Fjord, a quieter stretch of coastline most visitors never see because it sits off the usual tourist route back to Reykjavík (Icelandic: Reykjavík).
Like every tour we run, this one is private to your booking. You're in a Wi-Fi equipped comfortable private VIP vehicle with your own driver-guide, and nobody from another reservation is sharing the vehicle.
What the day covers
The route starts at Kerið Crater (Icelandic: Kerið), a volcanic caldera around 6,500 years old, where red volcanic rock rings a small crater lake. From there it's on to Gullfoss (Icelandic: Gullfoss), Iceland's best known waterfall, then the Geysir (Icelandic: Geysir) geothermal area, where Strokkur erupts every five to ten minutes.
Lunch is at Friðheimar (Icelandic: Friðheimar), a working tomato farm that grows produce year round using geothermal heat, an odd and genuinely interesting thing to see in a country this far north. After lunch there's a stop at a local dairy farm for ice cream made from their own milk, then on to Þingvellir National Park (Icelandic: Þingvellir), where you can walk the rift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
The day closes with the drive along the Hvalfjörður (Icelandic: Hvalfjörður) fjord road back toward Reykjavík (Icelandic: Reykjavík), mountains on one side, water on the other, and noticeably fewer cars than the main route.
Why the fjord road matters
Most Golden Circle tours turn around and drive straight back once Þingvellir (Icelandic: Þingvellir) is done. This one doesn't. Hvalfjörður (Icelandic: Hvalfjörður) cuts inland north of Reykjavík (Icelandic: Reykjavík), and the road along it isn't part of the standard loop, which is exactly why it's worth the extra time. If you've already done a spa or lagoon on this trip, or you'd simply rather end the day with a scenic drive than sitting in warm water, this is the version built for that.
PricingWhat's included
Transportation in a comfortable private VIP vehicle, an English-speaking driver-guide, free Wi-Fi on board, lunch at Friðheimar (Icelandic: Friðheimar), ice cream at the dairy farm, and admission to Kerið Crater (Icelandic: Kerið) are all included. Pickup and drop-off at your Reykjavík (Icelandic: Reykjavík) accommodation or the nearest tour bus stop, or the cruise terminal in Reykjavík (Icelandic: Reykjavík) if you mention your port at booking.
Good to know before you book
The tour depends on weather, so timing or stops can shift if conditions call for it. Bring layers and waterproof clothing regardless of season, since you'll be outdoors at several stops. Pickup details go out by email 6 to 24 hours before departure, and pickup points are close to most Reykjavík (Icelandic: Reykjavík) accommodation, though you may need to walk a short distance to the nearest stop. This tour isn't wheelchair accessible.

If a lagoon soak sounds better than a scenic drive, take a look at our Golden Circle Hvammsvík (Icelandic: Hvammsvík) Lagoon tour or our Golden Circle Sky Lagoon tour. If you're arriving by cruise ship with limited port hours, our private Golden Circle tour for cruise passengers is built for that specifically. You can also see the full range of what we run on our private tours page.
Why UsWhy travelers book with Enjoy Iceland Tours
We're a family-owned company running private VIP tours out of Reykjavík (Icelandic: Reykjavík) since 2016. This Golden Circle premium tour, like every trip we run, puts a vehicle booked exclusively for your group, guided by someone who actually knows the roads and the timing, not a script. Guests have rated us 5.0 across more than 2,000 reviews, and we picked up the LUXlife Global Excellence Award in 2025. If a Golden Circle Whale's Fjord Road tour is what you're after, specifically the drive without a lagoon stop, this is the one to book.
